NATIVE HERITAGE WEEK WORKSHOPS

Indigenous Flute Workshop Troy Good Medicine De Roche and Manu Josiah will conduct a two hour workshop on Native American flutes and the Native Hawaiian flute. If you are a beginning native flute player or just interested in flute, this workshop is perfect for you. Whether you own a flute or not, you can still attend! The workshop will cover the basics of playing, including scales, fingering, and special techniques. How to care for you flute, what to look for when buying a flute, and a bit of the history will also be discussed. Cost for the workshop is $40, and advance registration is required. Class space is limited.
Indigenous Drum Making Workshop Chippewa artist David Craig will guide you through the process of creating your own 10" rawhide Native American hand drum. Also learn to make a Native Hawaiian gourd hand drum from Hawaiian artist Leilehua Yuen. the workshop will cover the basics of crafting, playing, basic rhythms, and how to care for your drums. Some history also will be discussed.
Cost for the full workshop is $75. Advance registration is required. Class space is limited.
