A Trip to
Volcano
On Friday, June 1, 2012, Native Hawaiian cultural practitioners
Leilehua Yuen and Manu Josiah will lead a Powwow Staff Huaka`i ma
Kïlauea (Trip to the Volcano) to
conduct protocols honoring
Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of the volcano.
They will share stories and chants related to Pele, and teach the making
of a
ho`okupu (offering bundle)
in this sharing between traditional cultures.
The staff, guests, participating drums and
dancers will gather at 7:00 am at Moku Ola for pïkai
(preparation ceremony), and then travel by bus, graciously provided by
Connections Charter School, to Kïlauea and return about 11:00 am.
If you would like to join this wonderful cultural offering
please
contact Leilehua.
Seats are available to
other Powwow
participants on a space available basis.
Health Advisory: Those with respiratory and/or heart
conditions should check with their physicians first and, if approved, be
sure to bring appropriate medications such as emergency inhalers and epi-pens.
